Death, Sin and Jesus

Few days back, I found myself sitting next to a dead man and he stunk of sewage. He was in a high state of decomposition and tightly tied up with the ropes of Religion and a cellophane tape of Tradition was stuck over the ropes to ensure no escape.

Since dead do not speak, I had to look closer. A tattoo of a serpent coiled on the letter ‘M’ was sketched on his left arm. I knew whom he belonged to. The back of his shirt collar had the name of the city where he had come from, ‘City of Sin’.

The maggots, fungi, and larvae of pornography, sexual sin, lie, idolatry, murder, hatred, envy, drunkenness, selfish ambitions, sorcery, thefts, hypocrisy, love for money, traitor, etc. crawled and slithered all over him and gnawed at his soul.

Dead do not know that they are dead, so was the case with our dead man. He did not bother about the foul smell emanating from him. Instead, he was laughing and enjoying his status, oblivious of his impending doom. Soon, the day came when he was thrown into the eternal fire to burn forever.

Jesus said, "If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." Jn 8: 36
Again He said, "You are of your father the devil. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me." Jn 8:44a, 45
Again He said, "If you do not believe that I am He (Saviour of the world), you will die in your sins." Jn 8:24b
Again He spoke, "Unless you repent you will all likewise perish." Lk 13:5

God's judgment and Us

Adam, after he had been thrown out of the Garden of Eden, stood facing the thorns and thistles. With pain, he glanced back at what was once his abode and as he walked towards the wild heritage that he had inherited, he never, even once asked God, ‘Why this, Lord?’ He knew his sin, precisely.

September 11, 2001 and November 26, 2008 is a grim reminder of God’s judgment of their un-repented sins and our refusal to stand between God and them, pleading with Him for mercy and forgiveness.
